Historical Review

Nearly half a century of growth and success The international Camfil Farr has its roots in the Swedish company Camfil AB, founded in 1963 by Gösta Larson as a joint venture with the U.S. filter manufacturer Cambridge Filtration Corporation. The company’s original base was in the town of Trosa, about 70 km south of Stockholm, where the Swedish subsidiary is still located and has its main production, sales, distribution and R&D operations today. The company gradually expanded in Europe over a period of 20 years, and in 1983, Camfil became a wholly owned family business when Cambridge’s shareholding was acquired. The Larson family, together with the Markman family, have been the sole owners of Camfil Farr since 1983 except for the period 2000-2010, when a Swedish private equity company held a minority interest received in connection with the acquisition of Farr in the U.S. in 2000, when Camfil became Camfil Farr. During 2011, Camfil Farr will once again become a 100 percent owned family business. The company’s historical development is illustrated in the diagram below.
